Cris Gunther is an American singer, composer, producer, actor and dancer. His song "Never Give Up" was chosen by Madonna to be a daily feature in her digital arts initiative, Art for Freedom.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Madonna's Art For Freedom Official Tumblr )〕 It was the first song and music video to be selected out of thousands of submissions.
== History ==
Gunther was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and started his performing career in nightclubs, talent competitions, and singing in a Pentecostal church choir at the age of nine.
Gunther's father, Terry Gunther, a professional Country/Pop/Gospel singer and songwriter was the opening act for over a dozen, American Country music stars in the 1980s & 1990s, including, Lone Star, Lorrie Morgan, Billy Crash Craddock, Wade Hayes, Donna Fargo, Gene Watson, and T. Graham Brown. Terry Gunther also performed at The Memorial Service For Miners in Beckley, West Virginia, in April 2010, where President Barack Obama was the keynote speaker.
Other notable people from West Virginia are singer/songwriter Bill Withers ("Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine"), celebrity actress Jennifer Garner (''Alias'', ''Elektra''), Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast Mary Lou Retton (1984), and author/educator Booker T. Washington (1865–1915).
Cris Gunther lived in New York City for fourteen years, where he started his professional career at Marymount Manhattan College (a liberal arts college on the upper east side of Manhattan) as a student of theatre and psychology. Past alumni have included Alexander Skarsgård, actor (Eric Northman, True Blood), Moira Kelly, actress (''One Tree Hill'', "The Lion King"), and Ivette Sosa, actress/singer (Eden's Crush, Chasing Papi). Gunther also worked with Verve Records Artist Lucy Woodward (BMI Songwriter Award Winner for the International Top 5 Hit, "There's Gotta Be (More to Life)") on the tracks, "Gotta Give", "Sacred Sexuality", and the Kylie Minogue cover, "Turn It into Love". And, Tim K (Tiny Hearts, Russell Taylor, Les Nubians, Collette, Esthero) produced nine of the CD's ten tracks.
In 2008, Gunther started working and living in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The song "Never Give Up" (written and produced by Othoniel and Cris Gunther), from the ''Anchor And Wings'' project, was added to the biggest standalone music site in the world with over 7 million users per month, the famous, award winning, NME Magazine〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=NME )〕 based in the United Kingdom, in addition, to being added to over twenty different music and political blogs around the world, including Tokyo, Istanbul, Brazil, Poland, Croatia and various Arabic sites.
In 2014, Gunther acted in his second, Brazilian T.V. commercial for the drugstore chain, Drogaria Araujo. Gunther also recorded a performance for the international music franchise, BalconyTV,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Balcony TV's link )〕 that has seen such famous artists as Mumford & Sons, Ed Sheeran, The Script, Jessie J and Kimbra all record episodes before launching internationally. And, on the week of September 28, 2015, Cris Gunther's second, original, unreleased song, "204" (produced by Luã Linhares and written by Gunther, Curt Francisco and Luã Linhares) was classified #1 in the world on Isina's weekly chart again.
